FAQ

Q: How long does the process take?
A: Timelines vary based on facilitator availability and participant enrollment. Once you express interest, we work closely with you to schedule the workshop as efficiently as possible while accommodating your site’s needs.

Q: Do we need a certified health professional to host?
A: No! Workshops are led by trained facilitators. If your site is located in Suburban Cook County, AgeOptions may provide facilitators directly. If you are outside this area, we will connect you with a local delivery partner.

Q: What space is required to host a workshop?
A: You’ll need an accessible room that can comfortably accommodate 8–20 participants with tables and chairs. Some programs include light movement, and we’ll confirm space needs with you during planning.

Q: Does the workshop need to be held in the same room each week?
A: Yes. A consistent space helps participants feel comfortable and know where to go each session. If a room change is unavoidable, we ask that it be communicated in advance.

Q: What technology or equipment is required?
A: Some workshops use slides or videos and may require a TV with HDMI or DVD capability. Wi-Fi is recommended but not required for all programs. We’ll review technology needs before scheduling.

Q: How long do workshops last?
A: Sessions typically last 1.5–2.5 hours and are held once per week over 6–8 weeks, depending on the program. We’ll help you select a schedule that works for your site.

Q: Is there a cost to participate?
A: Many workshops are grant-funded, meaning there is no cost for participants. Costs to host sites depend on factors such as the program, number of workshops, materials, length of commitment, and location. Please contact us to discuss your specific needs.

Q: Are refreshments provided?
A: Refreshments are not required for most workshops. Depending on your site’s guidelines, participants may bring their own snacks, or your organization may choose to provide them. A Matter of Balance workshops ask host sites to provide healthy snacks for each session (approximately $5 per person for 8 sessions).

Q: Who can participate?

A: Our programs primarily serve adults age 60+ and individuals with disabilities of any age. Depending on the program, workshops may support people with chronic conditions, caregivers, individuals concerned about falls, or those looking to improve strength and flexibility. These are structured, evidence-based programs—participants must attend from the beginning and cannot join after the second session.

Q: How will I know if other workshops are being conducted in my area?
A: You can view currently scheduled workshops on our Find Classes page.

Q: What programs can I choose from?

A: Visit our Program Page to explore the full list of available workshops.
