A group program designed for individuals with arthritis that combines flexibility and strength training, aerobic walking, and health education. This engaging approach promotes behavior change and helps participants effectively manage osteoarthritis through enjoyable activities and wellness strategies.

About the Class​

Fit & Strong! (F&S) is a group physical activity and behavior change program for persons with arthritis, developed at the University of Illinois at Chicago. This multi-component, evidence-based initiative combines flexibility and strength training, aerobic walking, and health education to inspire lasting behavior change in individuals with osteoarthritis.

Duration & Format​

  • 24 class sessions offered either two or three times per week

  • Each session lasts 90 minutes

Topics 

Each session lasts 90 minutes, providing a supportive environment to connect with others while getting fit.

  • First 60 Minutes: Focus on flexibility, low-impact aerobics, and progressive strength training to boost your lower body function.

  • Final 30 Minutes: Engage in health education and group problem-solving with a structured curriculum that empowers you to make informed choices.​
